Daily Journal – Day 538: Quiet, heavy cooking

March 4, 2019 by Susanne 2 Comments

I woke up a little before the alarm again after having gotten enough sleep. Strangely enough I’m still feeling exhausted and quite tired a lot of the time, I think I might need even more rest. I’m also feeling very good and rather happy.

I forgot to write morning pages which is funny. My new morning routine isn’t routine at all at the moment. I did work on the novel for 55 minutes, though, so that’s good.

There was breakfast. And I finished the current pair of socks:

I even wove the ends in right away. Yay me.

Then the only thing left to do was to spin a little because I was freshly out of knitting projects. My husband showed up. We talked. Everything was really great. The boy showed up early. Seems he is in project-mode as well.

There were dishes and then there was yoga and then I planned the week out in my bullet journal. I had to transfer a lot of tasks from last week, maybe I planned wrong.

Then I checked my e-mail for the one time a day that I’m allowing myself this month and promptly got a slightly irritating mail about a student. On a Sunday. At the beginning of carnival break. I made a note to reply to it in eight days.

Then we started making lunch. We did the whole Italian experience and opened the bottle of wine while cooking. We made gnocchi from scratch which is always a little stressful and takes a lot of time but it was totally worth it. And we didn’t fight at all. Lunch was extra-yummy:

And unlike the last time I did get the gnocchi right.

Then I finished reading the current novel and bought another one that I had been eyeing for months now, then I finished the „Digital Minimalism“-book. I can highly recommend this. It is mostly about living with mindfulness and intention, something that everybody should do.

Then I sat around and really, really wanted to check social media but I was strong. And made a list of all the unread books about writing and publishing on my ebook reader.

There are sixty of those books on there! I’m thinking that is way too much. That’s what you get from buying story bundles about writing, by the way. There are also quite a few that I bought and started reading because I had a particular problem. And then I found that the book wasn’t really helping me with it and so I abandoned it somewhere in the middle. I should just put those aside. I will never finish them.

I also found quite a few that are about topics not all that relevant right now like intellectual property or discoverability and such. Those I definitely want to read but not right now.

Then I started knitting the button band on my Owligan.

I went and practiced a bit, finalized my patreon newsletter and send it out (finally, I have been feeling guilty already) and then it was almost time for watching something with the boy.

One thing that I found rather interesting was how often I want to check something online. I opened my browser three times. First I was thinking about the book cover design course, wondering if having a graphic tablet would be.a good idea and how much those cost, so I went and looked it up. Which was a bit silly, I won’t buy one right now anyway. (And the boy just got one that I could probably borrow for a while.)

The other two times were legitimate, we had been talking about buying Faschingskrapfen (basically doughnuts without a hole) tomorrow or the day after and then decided that having them for breakfast would fit best with our normal meal schedule and so I looked up when out favorite bakery opens on Monday, and then, some time later I looked up when the other bakery will open because I won’t wait until 8.30 for my breakfast.

So that’s the first thing today, I will go and buy Krapfen and eat them for breakfast. It will be interesting to see what my body will do with all that sugar.

Other than that there will be running and music and writing and maybe some other things as well. No teaching. I’m planning to check social media for podcast feedback. Briefly.

I can already say that not flitting between screens all the time makes me feel a lot calmer. I like it.

Das war ein super Post. Hat mir echt gut gefallen. Deine Tagesroutine ist interessant. Schaust du immer was mit deinem Sohn? Wir gucken abends immer Tom & Jerry. Meiner ist ja erst 7?

      Vielen Dank.

Wir schauen am Wochenende und in den Ferien abends immer etwas an, ansonsten bleibt der Fernseher weitgehend aus.
