And rushing around again

May 14, 2026 by Susanne Leave a Comment

On the bright side I might have a first idea for a series title for the romances. Might be completely dumb, though, I’ll need to sit with it a bit longer.

I went to bed too late, actually 45 minutes late. And then I slept a little longer and there went my writing time for the day. I guess it really is time to cut back on phone use in the mornings. It comes down to the question whether I find it more important to stay entertained and informed first thing in the morning or to do the thing that I claim is super important to me.

I did the complete rest of the morning routine which is also pretty telling because I rarely cut out my morning pages. And this month so far I have done yoga every single morning. Go me.

Husband did start a fire in the wood stove again and this time he also used said fire to boil tea water. We only talked very briefly because he needed to leave for his eye doctor appointment (everything was fine) and I needed to leave as well to get my prescription renewed.

Since Wednesday is usually a walking/running day my original plan was to bike to the doctor’s office which would have taken about half an hour. But I was weirdly reluctant to leave. Only when it was getting later and later did I finally realize that it was super windy and biking through that wind would definitely not be fun.

So I changed plans and took the train.

Got to the doctor’s office in time, got my prescription renewed without much fanfare, walked back to the train station, waited for the train and went back via the pharmacy. The next time I’ll have to do the will be in August.

The whole trip took a little more than an hour. The trains only go every twenty minutes so sometimes it goes faster but often it takes even longer. (And teenage me scoffs at someone saying „only every twenty minutes“. We used to sometimes wait for more than an hour for the next bus. I am very happy to live where I do.

I walked home, said hello to my husband who had just returned as well and was planning to do a very short run before lunch and then I ordered takeout. Did half the breakfast dishes, walked out again to pick up our food, told everyone it was ready and finally sat down:

spring rolls with sweet chili sauce and a glass of water

Also, ate this:

fried noodles with veggies and chicken and the same glass of water

We all ate together which was nice. Then I had about fifteen minutes of break before I had to get in the shower and get ready for teaching.

The new ukulele student was very tired and shy but did better than expected. I had a break between students that I used to practice the piano and refill one of my fountain pens, then more teaching.

My plan had been to eat the rest of my takeout for a quick dinner and then open my laptop and write before playing my video game and going to bed on time.

It took me almost twenty minutes to get myself from the annex to the kitchen. I talked with my husband a bit, I tidied a bit, and then I finally ate. And fell into an Instagram hole because I didn’t want to do the dishes or anything else.

I pulled myself out of that hole after eight, finally dealt with the dishes, brushed my teeth and set my computer up at my writing desk.

The boy came downstairs and asked me to make him a pot of tea while he took a shower because he was pressed for time, so I did that and started writing this post in between.

I was tired and exhausted and didn’t really want to do anything, and I had a list of things that I wanted to do in the game but I prevailed and opened the manuscript anyway. Not for the whole hour I had hoped for but such is life.

I’m not quite sure if me not having time to write is a self-fulfilling prophecy or stark reality. Something in between, probably.

Anyway, we are now entering public holiday territory, a completely free day, which traditionally means I get all the things done. Sure.
