I don’t even remember everything at this point but who cares.
In the morning I talked a lot with my husband and then had a long phone call with my mother. We both had a lot to talk about.
I also finished a sock:
After that we were pretty late in starting to make lunch, homemade pesto Genovese with capellini and, of course, more salad:
While cooking my husband and I actually managed to clear up a big misunderstanding about the difference between actual science and just ‚science‘ bros.
All three of us had lunch together, then the boy talked with me at length, mostly about his upcoming presentation but we might have touched a few other things that might or might not have involved pulling up Wikipedia.
Just when I had started settling down with a piece of chocolate and a book my husband showed up, ready to do the garden round we had agreed on earlier.
I sent him away and told him I’d come over in ten minutes or so.
I got a text from the app we used to book an apartment for my husband and his friend in Italy and I helped my husband answering it. So I was sitting at his computer writing a text in Italian, while his computer had switched the keyboard to QWERTY which meant I couldn’t find the accent I needed for ‚è‘.
We walked through the yard, which reminds me that I need to get out there and water the pots ASAP.
After that the boy and I agreed we were both too exhausted for strength training, we both ate dinner and then I got treated to two rounds of his presentation on organic solar cells. Physics and chemistry are not my forte at all but I do know a bit about printing and, funny enough, I used to have a roommate who was doing his PhD on semi-conductors. In hindsight I am finally understanding what that roommate tried to explain to me using wallpaper and paste.
He was nice enough to help me hang wallpaper the night before I was due to move in when my plan to just rip the old wallpaper off and paint the room white failed spectacularly after I spent days scraping the old paper off only to reveal lots and lots of holes between where no force was enough to part the old wallpaper from the wall.
I won’t say it’s my preferred bonding experience but it was rather nice.
Anyway. The boy needed to cut his presentation from 32 minutes down to 20. His second try clocked in at 25 minutes but by then I found my attention not only wandering but basically leaving the building. He sauntered off to ask an online friend living in the US to listen to the thing for a third time.
I then settled down to knit a bit and watch half an episode of ‚Word of Honor‘ and proceeded to not only watch the whole episode (a very good one) but a few short YouTube videos as well before going to bed too late.
This morning I got up before 6 and since then I’ve been doing a lot of reading and feeling tired.
Watch this space for more updates on my ongoing sleep deprivation and tune back in tomorrow!
