Waiting for the storm and hormones

June 5, 2025 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I went to bed an hour late because I did the dishes and took a shower in the evening.

And in the morning I did not dawdle for once because I had to leave the house relatively early. I did manage morning pages, yoga and meditation and still was almost done with eating breakfast when my husband showed up.

No knitting in the morning, though, and I had to leave with half my tea still in the mug. But that’s why I bought that new thermos a while back. Specifically for days where I need to leave the house so early that I can’t finish my tea but have time to drink it between coming back home and lunch.

I took a train to a nearby town and saw my gynecologist to talk about hormone-replacement therapy. I left with a prescription for estrogen gel and progesterone. This will be interesting.

Before leaving I even talked with my husband about the big thing he had been wanting to talk about the day before, phew. That made me a little later than I wanted and I forgot my umbrella.

The day was super hot and humid and all the weather apps had red warning signs about an impending thunderstorm and possible hail.

No storm or hail while I was out and about but it did start raining.

On my way back home I went to the pharmacy where I go half my meds and a little slip of paper for later in the day to pick up the other half and I bought some chocolate.

It was still pretty early when I came back but my energy levels were not the best, so I sat down, drank my tea and read.

Husband made fabulous pasta e fagioli for lunch:

pasta e fagioli, a zucchini flower for decoration and a glass of water

Also, the yarn for my striped cardigan arrived:

a brown wooden tabletop with eight balls of yarn, two each of brown, orange, olive and magenta

I am pretty sure these colors will work together as I thought they might. The brown is still too gray but there is nothing I can do about that short of over-dyeing. Which would require more experience and patience than I have.

By the way I do not expect to get a cardigan from just 400 grams of yarn, I still have at least a ball of all the colors except for the orange lying around somewhere.

After lunch I took a break with chocolate. At one point in the afternoon I did finish reading „Strange New World“ by Vivian Shaw, the last Greta Van Helsing book. I really liked the book but have to say I found the ending a little abrupt and vague. It felt a little like the author got fed up with the story and just slapped a solution on. At least we did get a prologue where some things were tied together. So, I still love the book, just the pacing was a bit off for me.

In between two students I rushed to the pharmacy to pick up the second half of my new meds. It was really weird, I mean we had been waiting for the rain and hail and storm to come all day but when I walked through town in the afternoon it was just sunny and hot under a blue sky.

After teaching I was a bit unsure. The boy and I were set to do bodyweight training but I hadn’t seen him since just after lunch the day before or so. He also hadn’t replied to any of my messages and while I had asked him to do the dishes, the day before he had neither done so, nor replied to me.

A part of me thought he might be lying dead in his bed.

(He was, in fact, not lying dead in his bed. Phew.)

So while he did not answer any of my messages he did show up for training. Even though it was way too hot and we had to do our awful ten sets of three.

On the bright side, my new, new pair of exercise gloves is working. Even though they would fit me better if they were smaller. (The guide said to order a size up if you’re between sizes. Well.) At least slightly too big is easier to handle than too small.)

I have now reached the point where I use two different pairs of gloves while exercising. It does feel a bit extra but there you are.

After bodyweight training it was finally time to eat dinner. I ate a bit too much chocolate afterwards for extra energy, then started writing this post, let the dirty dishes be dirty (something that is coming to haunt me now), did Duolingo, watch a bit of C-drama and went to bed.

Oh, and something I completely missed until my husband pointed it out to me: our balcony somehow acquired a new coat of paint despite the threat of rain and hail.

Which turned into actual rain (but no hail as far as I know)some time during dinner.

Two more teaching days until Pentecost break…
