I had big plans of all the things I wanted to do before we left at 11 but in the end none of them came to pass. I barely managed to put sunscreen on and pack a bag with water bottles, almonds and a hat.
The boy was almost late, as always, and had to put his sunscreen on on the train.
There was a bit of bad mood because he was so late, my husband got angry and left for the train station without us. Which was no use because I had his ticket on my phone, but well. In the end we arrived with four minutes to spare and then the train was late.
I was a little anxious about the 1-hour hike up the hill to the Andechs monastery, because of my feet I haven’t done any exercise, not even walking for ages. And while the feet were gloriously pain-free for a couple of days while we were visiting my mother, they are now back to the familiar plantar fasciitis pain. I still decided to go because a) I’m much better and b) I don’t want to sit around doing nothing for the rest of my life and c) I’m pretty sure once I do my exercises again the feet will get better. Did I do my exercises the last few days? No, of course not.
It did help that the hike is so familiar. I know all the points where I usually am in crisis. Struggling in the sun in the street where you think the nice shady valley will start any second now? I now know that this goes on for about three times as long as I think it does.
All in all I was very happy with how it went. Yes, I went into crisis several times at the end. My pulse went to 152 at one point when climbing the stairs and that was when I decided to maybe pause a bit. The boy carried my backpack at the end which was also very kind. We all had feared he would have a hard time as well because he is pretty out of shape at the moment but he did better than me.
I did not have an asthma attack even though I was close. Walking through trees next to a stream was cool and pleasant and there weren’t a lot of people around either. Often that path is super crowded and you have to squeeze in between large groups of hikers and the insane cyclists with their electrified mountain bikes.
We had the traditional, somewhat boring food for lunch and the really delicious if way too strong beer:
That beer tastes a bit like liquid chocolate. Even the boy had some this time. We only ever get it when we’re there and it does taste much better on tap than when buying the bottles in the supermarket. Also, everything tastes better when you’re hungry after a sweaty hike. And sweaty it was, it was really remarkably hot that day.
We then got Auszogene for dessert:
They were so fresh that the boy had to wait for them to be done and they were still hot.
Then we walked all the way down again which was easier but took the same amount of time.
We went to the train station, saw that we still had 15 minutes before the train, decided to go down to the lake in the meantime and then remembered that my husband had packed his swim trunks. So the boy and I sat down on the grass for a bit while my husband went swimming:
We walked back to the train station in a leisurely fashion, had to wait a couple of minutes for yet another late train that inexplicably was sitting there on the tracks for five minutes before pulling into the station for no apparent reason, then went back home.
Just before we left the train my husband remembered that he had a student at 5 and would be late because 3 minutes is not enough to walk home from the station. Since the student was his nephew I had his phone number and called him. He said, not to worry, that he would just visit my mother-in-law upstairs in the meantime.
As expected that was it for the day, I did eventually do the dishes and sort the recycling and take a shower but it took me all the way until 10 pm. I was even too tired to watch TV and just read for a bit with my hair still wet. After nodding off for the second time in a row I turned the lights out at a very reasonable time.
Today I will do all.the.things!!! Of course.
