We got up earlier than the days before, got packed up, paid for out room and went to my mother’s place for breakfast.
After breakfast we made ourselves egg and cheese sandwiches for our lunch because we would spend lunchtime on a train without a dining car and would arrive in Hannover with not enough time to eat.
The first leg of our journey back was uneventful even if the train was late (again) but it all evened out because the next train was even later. The train app told me that car 33 of the next train was unusable and I thought to myself, „phew, at least it’s not car 32“ because that would have been the car with our reserved seats. This will become important later.
We ended up having enough time in Hannover to acquire licorice chocolate and coated peanuts. Then we had to find out that the car with our reserved seats was closed because the AC wasn‘t working. We found one seat without reservation in the next car (the one my train app told me was closed) for the boy and I went on to hunt for another one. I found an empty seat for the next two stops but shortly before I would have to go and find another a woman showed up asking everyone in the car if they had a reservation and when they would be getting off because the car the boy was sitting in had a malfunctioning AC as well and would be evacuated soon.
So I took my luggage (I‘m very happy I chose to consolidate my luggage into one backpack and one purse, btw) and went looking for two empty seats. There were none, of course, but there was one empty table in the dining car. Score! I texted the boy to join me and we had beers and cakes and wraps all the way to Munich.
We were joined by a nice older couple who were very happy to have found the last two empty seats on the train. The husband turned out to have been a physics lecturer at a small Bavarian university and both of them were interested in my knitting.
We had to take two trains from Munich back home instead of the usual one because of construction work but ended up back home at the same time we should have from the beginning, so that was good.
I took a shower right away and unpacked my stuff and we both were very happy to be back home.
Today I‘m planning to settle back in, knit and get myself as grounded as possible.
