Well, after lunch. Let’s see, this was lunch:
And yes, this is a strange version of tagliatelle, the reasoning behind it was that my husband wanted to make a version of peas, ham and cream sauce without the cream because he can’t eat it, I don’t like ham and the boy and I should get some extra protein, hence the egg.
I then went to Munich. The trip there was pretty crowded and I had to change trains because there is construction on the main line running through the inner city and at the moment, on weekends, only two of the eight lines run through it. It meant waiting for another train for 15 minutes but that was no problem.
I told my friend’s friend’s daughter to meet me right at Marienplatz which was a mistake. I keep forgetting how full of tourists that part of Munich is, especially in August. Also, Adele seems to be in town for a month, giving 10 concerts?
I heard lots of Italian, some Chinese and Russian and also quite a few people with very strong Bavarian accents, some of them in actual Lederhosen, complaining about how crowded it was.
Once the young woman showed up I decided to go around the corner in the hopes it wouldn’t be as crowded. Well, it wasn’t as full but we still had a hard time finding a place. In the end we ended up at a Thai (I think it was Thai) self-service place.
We talked for an hour or so which was really lovely. She kept speaking German throughout, only resorting to English or French when absolutely needed. I had prepared beforehand to unearth my very rusty French but that wasn’t needed in the end. Always fun when using different languages, that moment where you don’t understand a word, then realize you’re listening in the wrong language, then compensate for accent and then suddenly your brain lights up with the right word.
While we were sitting there talking, the clouds on the horizon became increasingly dark and menacing so I told her we should get back to the train station.
Well, we were too late. We got caught in a downpour where even my umbrella didn’t help. But then we found the entrance to a shoe store where a group of people was already waiting and took shelter.
I came back home just in time for dinner by way of the health food store for extra chocolate and licorice, ate all the things, sat around for a while, decided to just go to bed, sat around some more until my husband’s friend was gone, then helped my husband do the dishes (I had delegated the lunch dishes to the boy but husband had cooked again for his friend) and went to bed at a reasonable time.
This morning I woke up sluggish with a tension headache so my guess is things will go very slowly today.
