New month, new luck, new doctor’s appointments

March 2, 2024 by Susanne Leave a Comment

But it’s all good. Went to bed the traditional 30 minutes too late, slept well and woke up 15 minutes before the alarm. Yes, that means I didn’t get enough sleep again.

I love new month energy and made good use of it by getting up right away and doing my full morning routine. I even was finished with breakfast because my husband showed up. We didn’t talk much, I crocheted a bit and went online briefly before taking a shower and getting ready for my doctor’s appointment. I did not wash my hair, though, because there wasn’t enough time and I didn’t want to go outside with wet hair.

My feet were hurting which was fitting because I was on my way to the orthopedist. I tried reading on the bus but had to stop because of motion sickness. The doctor’s office was packed but I didn’t mind the wait at first because I kept reading „The Watchmaker of Filigree Street“. After an hour in the waiting room, when everyone who had been in there when I arrived plus one or two people who had arrived after me were gone I was convinced they had forgotten about me. Just when I was about to ask one of the assistants the doctor called me in.

I told her about the ongoing pain, showed her the weird nodules under my left foot, assured her that I was wearing my insoles faithfully, yes, even in my house slippers, and she told me that I likely have Morbus Ledderhose. No, I’m not kidding. Ledderhose was the name of the guy who first wrote about it. The English Wikipedia article calls it plantar fibromatosis which doesn’t sound as ridiculous. So the fascia decide to grow nodules and thicken. It is benign but might eventually get problematic when walking hurts. The doctor looked at me and said, „You’re a bit too young for it,“ then looked at the birth date on my chart, „or maybe not.“ So yeah, the doctor thought I was younger than I am.

Regarding the plantar fasciitis I got x-rayed, there is a heel spur on the left but not on the right and the next option for me is shockwave therapy. And since I visited her the first time in August and again in November with the same problem insurance will cover three sessions. Yeah! So, starting next week I will get shockwaves on Thursday mornings. I’m knocking on wood and hoping it will help. We’ll start the left foot first because that one hurts the most.

With waiting for over an hour, x-rays and talking to the doctor twice it was almost lunchtime when I stepped on the bus again. As I was waiting I finished reading the watchmaker book and was happy that I had bought the second in the series before leaving the house. I’m really loving the story and the characters, Victorian London and all the Japanese. Just lovely.

I made a short detour to the tea shop because my husband is out of black tea, did not buy sweets or baked goods on my way home, arrived to a kitchen that was just as messy and covered in dirty dishes from the day before as I had left it. My husband wasn’t home either, so definitely not his fault. I made frozen pizza for the boy and myself:

a plate with a formerly frozen pizza margherita and a glass of water on the side

By then I was very hungry and pretty thirsty. I ate some chocolate for dessert and read for twenty minutes before I had to teach. I’m rather proud of delegating the washing up to the boy. It was just finished when I stopped teaching three hours later. One of my students canceled and the last one was 15 minutes late because of a work call but she had told me beforehand that she would be late, so no problem. We sang „Girl on Fire“ by Alicia Keys and „Time after Time“ by Cindy Lauper and had a lot of fun. My voice is getting stronger again, phew.

Then I talked with my husband for a bit about our respective doctor’s visits, ate dinner while reading, started writing this post, did my voice exercises and Duolingo, then watched another ‚look at this amazing tourist destination‘-episode of the current C-drama and went to bed. The product placement in Chinese TV series is insane. This one also has every other character catching a cold all over the place so that they can prominently display a certain cold medicine that has to be sponsoring 3/4 of the Chinese TV industry.

Today there will be exercise, I hope, another shower (this time with the hair-washing) and lunch with my husband’s aunt. Oh, and finishing everything I had wanted to do yesterday.
