Monday, November 9: Back to teaching means back to productivity

November 10, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

Apparently.

Last weekend I was on the verge of giving up on NaNo. But I don’t wanna. I didn’t write a single word since Friday and I am really behind.

So I decided to ramp things up a bit.

I woke up at 5.30, did yoga and meditated and wrote before breakfast. Not as much as I wanted and it went kind of slow but at least I tried. I had breakfast, I crocheted, I read, I waited for the rest of the family to get up, I talked with my husband and crocheted some more.

I went running/walking and did pretty well:

It was sunny but cold. There were a lot of people out.

I came back home and helped a little with lunch. Lunch was late but good:

Then I took a short break and wrote for half an hour again.

Taught all the students, wrote emails, ate dinner, hung up laundry, helped with dishes and when I then thought about writing some more I – couldn’t. When you start your day before six it’s hard enough to teach until seven.

So today I’ll try to write 2,000 words or more again. I will also run errands, teach and do the usual.

Friday, November 6: Almost forgot to clean

November 7, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

My time management skills aren’t up to speed at the moment. Or rather, my Susanne-managing skills.

I woke up at six, spent the first thirty minutes doomscrolling, did yoga, forgot to meditate and had breakfast. There was not enough time to start writing before my husband’s breakfast.

I did finish the crochet blanket and didn’t take a picture. Sorry. The light was bad, the whole day way gray and dim, it was also cold and wet. I did the dishes and talked with the boy.

And then it was too late to start cleaning without it interfering with cooking. So I helped chop up vegetables and then I dusted and vacuumed the annex. The plan was to do the rest of the cleaning in the afternoon. When I thought about cleaning it was my mother-in-law’s nap time. So I waited. And then I forgot.

I did start a new crochet blanket instead. That was what had me running late in the morning.

Lunch was on time and delicious:

IMG 1893

Fetuccine, cream sauce with peas, carrots and ham. You can’t see the ham because it’s at the bottom of the plate.

I did do the dishes right away again. Bonus points for that. I took a bit of a break after talking with the boy again. He is anxious about going back to school next week. The Powers that Be have decided that all the students will have to return to school at the same time. Despite the numbers still being extremely high. They have to be masked all day but that won’t really help. He is scared not of catching COVID himself, he is mostly scared of infecting the rest of the family. And I can totally understand.

Then I finally was about to start writing when – my husband showed up to talk with me. We talked for ten minutes. It took me another twenty to mentally get ready for writing again. Then the boy showed up.

I did get around to writing 1,200 words in the end but it wasn’t easy. Being able to switch between two projects did feel good, though.

Then I started writing this post, the boy and I watched the new episode of ‚Star Trek: Discovery‘, I crocheted some more, wrote a few more words and went to bed on time.

All in all the day was not too bad but the cleaning still needs to happen.

Today there will be the running, the writing and another virtual knitting meeting with the lovely Laura tonight. Will I get around to cleaning and sewing? Stay tuned.

Wednesday & Thursday, November 4 & 5: More procrastination

November 6, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

With just a bit of writing sprinkled in. I am totally wasting the week off that I wanted to spend writing and sewing. All I’m actually doing is reading, doomscrolling, eating all the sugar and doing a bit of crochet in between.

Today I’ll do everything different, of course. Since I’m all out of sweets and won’t go and buy more that might actually happen.

We’ll see.

Tuesday, November 3: Mostly procrastination

November 4, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I woke up early, did yoga and meditated and then started the procrastination.

There was breakfast and crochet and reading and then I went out to run errands and go to the health food store. My husband made very tasty lunch:

IMG 1887

I read some more, played ‚Breath of the Wild‘ where I’m stuck and finally sat down to write after four. Spent an hour writing in total and ended up with 1,400 words. Not quite enough.

The boy and I watched a rather boring episode of ‚Enterprise‘ and ate ice cream, I started writing this post, wrote a little more and went to bed.

Today there will be more of the same. Minus the errands, plus running.

Monday, November 2: Not the best start into NaNoWriMo

November 3, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I’m hoping things will pick up soon. Like, today would be good.

Late to bed, no writing in the morning, no yoga, blablabla.

There was some running and walking:

IMG 1883

It was warm and nice and there were a lot of people out running and walking:

IMG 1884

Because we’re in lockdown again. Well, sort of:

IMG 1885

I helped making salad and there was no time to take a shower before lunch. There was leftover lasagna:

IMG 1886

And then the afternoon went completely off the rails.

I read a bit, I played ‚Breath of the Wild‘ I doomscrolled, I talked with the rest of the family. I barely managed to get into the shower before dinner. The boy and I watched an episode of ‚Eternal Love‘. My plan was to be done early and write some words afterwards.

Then I did all the dishes, started writing this post and decided to call it quits.

Meh.

So, today I’ll do it all. Write about 10,000 words, go to the health food store and sew all the things.

Sure.

Sunday, November 1: The novel is done! And NaNoWriMo is a go!

November 2, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I woke up after only 5 1/2 hours of sleep. Funny enough, „I’ll just read for fifteen minutes before getting up,“ still isn’t working. One of these days I’ll learn.

So after reading for ninety minutes I did some yoga. I’m trying the 30-day-yoga challenge for the third time in a row. I think I usually end up doing 18 days of yoga or something like that but I figure that’s better than no yoga.

I had breakfast right at the time when my husband usually shows up but he was a little late as well. As was the boy.

I crocheted a bit:

IMG 1881

I called my mother on the phone (she is still in pain but slowly getting better). I had half an hour after that that I wanted to use for writing but instead I chose to do an online jigsaw puzzle.

My husband and I made lasagna:

IMG 1882

I went on Facebook to watch Becca Symes kick off her NaNoWriMo-thing, went back to the kitchen to drink tea, eat chocolate and read, started playing ‚Breath of the Wild‘ on the Wii (That one is actually on my list of tasks for the month. I thought putting fun onto my list would be, um, fun.) and then went back to my studio to write my 3,000 words for the day.

I watched several Youtube videos, went on Ravelry, read some more, and finally put my butt in the chair and wrote the final scene for the novel I had started last year on November 6. Phew.

Then I procrastinated some more, made a new Scrivener project for the novel I want to write next and was just feeling inspired when it was time for dinner and a movie.

And then I waited for the rest of the family to show up for almost thirty minutes. I could have written many words in that time.

We watched „Rising Sun“ together, all three of us. It was fitting with Sean Connery passing the day before but I actually had planned to watch this film for weeks. We all liked it. I still am not quite sure what it all means.

After that it was too late to write some more so the first day of NaNo sees me with 1,000 woads less than I need. Meh.

Of course, today I will totally make up for it. Sure. I really mean it this time.
