Friday, October 23: Mostly reading

October 24, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I woke up rather early after getting enough sleep. I still didn’t write a single word but I did yoga in the morning.

I almost got the cleaning done and I did help quite a bit with making lunch. We had pizza for the first time in ages:

Then I started teaching. I had big plans to use my two hour break between students for sewing but instead I finished reading another novel. Then two more students and then the boy and I watched the new episode of ‚Star Trek: Discovery‘. This one was better than the last one. It made me excited to see where the show is going again.

And then I decided that I didn’t want to do dishes, I started writing this post, had another beer and declared the weekend started.

Today there will be running and then I’m hoping for some writing and some sewing. Wish me luck.

Thursday, October 22: And the need to adapt

October 23, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I woke up early, did yoga and meditated and then decided to just read and read and read. There was breakfast with the boy who had to go to school for a test but came back afterwards because the schools are doing shifts again. Only grades 10 to 12 are still writing all the tests together. For this they meet in one of the biggest rooms in the school so they can keep their distance and they have to wear masks as well.

I crocheted a bit. The blanket only needs two more rows of squares before I can start making the border. There was a bit of housework and then I went off to the supermarket. It only took about an hour this time because I had bought so many groceries the week before. I tried writing afterwards but failed.

My husband made lunch all by himself:

After that I took a break instead of doing the dishes and answered emails from students. There were two more in quarantine so I would have to switch them to video lessons, one wasn’t feeling well, one had to reschedule and one had to cancel. So I ended up only teaching three students in the end.

I really enjoyed having extra time but I did not make the best of it. What I did, though, and that was the best idea I had all day, was that I asked the boy if he wanted to watch some ‚Eternal Love‘ with me in the evening. And we did and it was great. Even though the episode had a lot of set up and exposition. There were actual, „As you know, Bob“-scenes. Nobody is called Bob in that series, though.

And then I was too tired to even write this post or do the dishes or anything, so I just brushed my teeth and went to bed around nine.

Today there will be the weekly cleaning of the house (for real this week), quite a bit of teaching with all the rescheduling, and then the weekend.

Wednesday, October 21: All teaching all day

October 22, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I think I might have slept for eight hours or so, so that was a win. No writing, though. But I did yoga and meditated.

I tried very hard to get out of the house for my walk/run as early as possible but it still was eleven before I left. Running was fun, perfect weather and I was a little faster than usual, even:

Not the nicest halfway point, right on top of the highway:

IMG 1844

You can see how Munich is creeping in on the last piece of nature in between.

IMG 1846

I came home, took a shower, helped to make lunch and apparently did not take a picture of my food. I was sure I had but the phone lied to me. We had tagliatelle bolognese and salad.

Afterwards I did the dishes, had a ten minute break and started teaching. I taught all through the afternoon and when I was done at seven all three of us sat down to dinner. I’m doing a mix of in-person and online teaching at the moment because some students are not coming in for reasons. I had one student this week with a cough, two that are just cautious and two in quarantine.

After dinner there were dishes again and then I got all my bullet journals out to see how I managed to write all those words in the last two years. Well. It turned out there weren’t as many words as I thought there were, and I mostly did them in the morning between 6 and 7 and again between 8 and 9. The best days are the ones where I write for longer than thirty minutes because the first twenty minutes or so are always spent on reading through what I wrote before.

Now, my writing time between 8 and 8.30 is gone because my husband has been getting up at 8 for the past few months. And between 6 and 7 I am usually doing yoga and making breakfast. Also, checking Instagram and such. And I never ever write for more than two or three days in a row.

Still. I can blog daily so I should be able to write daily too. But I have no idea how to write enough to win NaNo this year.

This will all be rather interesting.

Tuesday October 20: Grammar check

October 21, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I don’t have much time today so I’ll just write a few words.

Yesterday was a little better in terms of productivity. No writing but after my run to the health food store and the bakery I did spend some time looking at pictures for book covers and trying a spell and grammar checking software. I learned something about commas and chose to ignore the rules anyway. I also made two polls at Patreon and on Ravelry so that the people interested in attending a Handgemacht-Podcast virtual knitting meeting can tell me which of the two dates would work better for them.

My husband made feijoada for lunch:

I taught quite a few students, had dinner and decided to just let the dishes sit because I was way to tired. There were quite a few emails from students who needed video lessons because they are having colds or need to isolate.

Today there will be the running and even more teaching than yesterday.

Monday, October 19: All clear

October 20, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

I didn’t really get anything done on the weekend. I basically spent it all talking with my husband and son. The boy’s second test was negative as well so we got to spend time with him again. Phew.

So on Monday morning I set my alarm for 5.15 in an attempt to do yoga, meditate and write before breakfast.

Well, yoga and meditation happened. So did breakfast.

The boy’s grade is still officially in quarantine so he is having video lessons, plus he was busy preparing a presentation for his English conversation class. About Shakespeare’s English. He gleefully immersed himself in research but had to throw a lot of it out in order to keep within his 15-minute timeframe.

The weather was gorgeous, cold but sunny which made my walk/run rather enjoyable:

I came back home, helped a bit with cooking, took a shower and had lunch:

I only had a very short break before teaching started. I had told everyone to come in person but three students opted for video lessons anyway. It’s a bit weird to switch but I changed the position of the tablet I’m using for video and that made it all easier.

After teaching I had bread and cheese for dinner, talked very briefly with the rest of the family, did all the dishes, pots and pans and got ready for bed.

Nope, no writing, no nothing.

Today there will be the walk to the health food store and some teaching and I’m hoping for a bit of free time in between. I did decide that I won’t teach during fall break, not even a student here and there. This always feels weird because I’m leaving actual money on the table but I really want some time away. If I could I would want to go away for the week and hole up somewhere pretty to write. Since I can’t I will try to do a virtual writing retreat at home. I’m already looking forward to it.

Friday, October 16th: Not much happening

October 17, 2020 by Susanne Leave a Comment

It was a rather ordinary Friday. There was yoga and the usual chores and meals.

The boy went to get tested for a second time, this time everything went as it should. We’ll probably get the result on Monday. Another schoolmate of his was tested positive, the quarantine will probably last until next Friday or so. He is still spending all his time upstairs in his room.

I did call my mother on the phone, nothing new there, she is still in pain, still can’t do a lot. I did half the weekly cleaning.

We had leftovers for lunch:

IMG 1828

I spent the afternoon alternating teaching and reading. Not the best use of my time. I did order some fabric, though. I decided that I don’t need to buy all the fabric for all my next projects at once, it is alright to just start with some mask fabric and elastic and everything I need for one skirt. After deciding to make the skirt in a dark gray corduroy I promptly ordered the fabric in chocolate brown. No, I don’t quite know why either. In the evening I watched an episode of ‚Miss Fisher‘ while crocheting, then did the humungous pile of dishes, started writing this post and went to bed too late.

Today there will be running. Maybe the rest of the cleaning, no idea what else.
