Daily Journal – Day 238: Meh, but it got better

May 9, 2018 by Susanne Leave a Comment

Seems I’m not getting the hang of being productive this week.

I woke up early and spent all that time reading. Then forgot to take my thyroid medication at first, which meant I had breakfast a little later than usual. And then the boy had breakfast quite a bit later than usual because he had an excursion with school and only had to leave after my husband showed up for his breakfast.

I just realized that I never meditated yesterday because of all of that. Huh.

My husband feels just as much overwhelm as I do at the moment, probably more so that’s what we talked about.

Then I went grocery shopping. I’m still not used to my favorite grocery store being closed. Because I wanted to focus on writing today I decided to go to yet another one. It seemed easier and faster. But. I had to go to three stores instead of one. And to the health food store. And true to form when I came home I had forgotten to buy carrots, tomatoes and bell peppers. So I went back again and it took longer than I had hoped it would.

We had very tasty chili for lunch because the boy had brought a friend with him and that friend really loves chili.

I left the dishes and tried getting something done but only succeeded in doing my singing warmup for ten minutes. Then there was the teaching. And the internet in between.

As I thought, the boy didn’t really feel like playing the piano yesterday so I sat down with him for his dinner, and then I got ready for bed. I keep falling asleep around nine with my makeup still on and my teeth unbrushed, and so I am trying to just get ready for bed earlier. Around seven this time. I can still write in bed and read with my pajamas on. Having brushed my teeth also minimizes the possibility of binge-eating.

I did manage to write words, albeit reluctantly. And managed to go to bed on time.

Today there will be running and teaching and all the usual. We’ll see how that goes.

Daily Journal – Day 237: Unusually lazy and unproductive Monday

May 8, 2018 by Susanne Leave a Comment

Well, usually I get all productive and busy on Mondays but today the magic of a new week didn’t really work.

Seems I have too many things going around in my head. Thyroid hormones and my father’s health (long story and not mine to tell) plus the not-writing and some conversations my husband and I had about his future gardening plans. Plus the GDPR-thingy and all the myriad small things I need to do and my MIL coming last night and the fact that I’m such a slow runner.

Let’s just say that I spent the writing time I had throughout the day finding an acceptable pill box online.

I did get my act together a little after dinner but still. Feels like a wasted day.

I did go running, though:

IMG 1314

And had delicious food for lunch (lentils and rice and more weeds):

IMG 1315

And that basically sums up the excitement of the day.

I did try to watch a free webinar in the morning and kept getting crankier because video is just such a slow form of communication but then I found out that there are written summaries at the end of each chapter.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll watch any more videos, I’ll just read the summaries, thank you. So much faster! So much better! If my mind wanders while reading I can always go back. And I can read as fast as I like, and I can skim things if I already know them. With video I have to make myself pay attention, and then my mind wanders off until I find I missed something, and then I go back and miss it again. When I told the boy how much I dislike learning from videos he said, „And now you know how I feel every day in school.”

I feel for him and I can totally relate. If there hadn’t been books in school I would have been screwed.

So. Today there will be all.the.grocery shopping and music and writing and students. And then early to bed. Just like every day. I do like living this way but it doesn’t make for interesting blog posts.

Daily Journal – Day 236: Trying to catch up

May 7, 2018 by Susanne Leave a Comment

Lazy Sunday morning, and since I had decided to try to catch up with my writing I actually sat down outside on the porch before lunch and started writing.

So far I have a steady rate of equal procrastination time for every minute I’m doing the writing proper. Not the most efficient way of doing this.

Called my mother after lunch, sat down and read a little unplied the rest of the green Polwarth and sat down to write some more. Then I realized that I could watch the Giro d’Italia. Decided to sit down in front of TV and alternate writing with watching.

That went as well as was to be expected. Still, 405 more words.

I’m thinking I might need more thyroid hormone. My doctor didn’t blink and eye when I told her that I had been taking twice the amount she told me to take. In my defense the radiologist had recommended that dose, and he didn’t have his judgement blurred by the fact that I did lose weight the year before. (Slowly, and it was very, very hard, and I was packing it back on at a rate of one kilo per month.)

Still, I’m still not really bustling with energy, and I’m cold, cold, cold all the time. Yesterday during the day my husband was outside wearing nothing but shorts while working in the garden, and I was sitting on the porch in long yoga pants, wool socks and a heavy fleece shirt with my fingers going white from being cold.

So I’m debating playing around with the dose again. What I’m taking is still really low, and my TSH levels are still within normal range.

I’ll think about it some more.

Around dinnertime I had 2,300 words. About half of what I had wanted to write. Not too bad, though.

See, this right here is why I will never become a workaholic. I am way too laid back about not reaching my goals.

I then watched an episode of „Star Trek: The Next Generation“ with the boy. This was now the third very good episode in a row. Season five is going very nicely so far. Of course, I had already seen them all, twice, but still I’m enjoying the rewatch.

I got ready for bed pretty early and tried writing some more but felt too tired.

Woke up early as well.

Today I will run and teach and write and make music, and I guess that’s enough.

Daily Journal – Day 235: Typical Saturday

May 6, 2018 by Susanne Leave a Comment

Somehow I did quite a bit of things and got nothing done. One of those days.

In the morning I actually went to the bakery to get breakfast for my husband and son. I walked/ran 10k and it was fun. My hip hurt a little but that’s gone by now so I’m good. I took quite a few pictures:

Then we had leftovers for lunch but a lot of work with them because I had to make the salad and prepare a mountain of herbs. There was asparagus soup which is not photogenic but tasted great:

IMG 1311

And then fried potatoes with egg and salad:

IMG 1312

That’s one of the few things I eat with ketchup.

Then I took a long break and did the lunch dishes around three, and then I took a shower and then I folded three loads of laundry and put them away and hung up another one and I painted my toenails and then it was already dinnertime. I did sing and play the piano a bit but that was all I got done.

I’m hoping that today will be more productive and somewhat leisurely at the same time. But Sundays are tricky too.

Okay, all the days are tricky.

Daily Journal – Day 234: TGIF

May 5, 2018 by Susanne Leave a Comment

That was another go, go, go day.

I did wake up early and posted the blog post, and after breakfast I started housework stuff. I managed to clean and to get the pizza ready early, and right after breakfast I wrote show notes for the podcast.

IMG 1305

The rest of the day was dominated by teaching a lot and getting the podcast ready for publishing.

Not much music, no writing at all.

The boy and I watched „Star Trek“ and „Big Bang Theory“ (we’re all done with „How I Met Your Mother“) and I went to bed early.

And now it’s the weekend.

Today I will run, and publish the podcast and not do much more, I think. Writing would be a good thing, though.
