Well, I stayed up until past midnight. Which seems to happen a lot on Tuesdays, not quite sure why. Anyways, I think it is time to try a friend’s suggestion of not only setting alarms for the things that need to get done before I turn the lights out but also to make (and adhere to) the rule that the alarms might be put on snooze but they only get turned off once the thing is done, not before.
I did manage morning pages and meditation but didn’t do yoga again. Meh.
After three mornings of weaving in ends I finally finished the mystery shawl. And did not take a picture, sorry, because I needed to get to the optician after brushing my teeth and doing the breakfast dishes.
I actually was there on time and everything was extremely pleasant. Behold my new glasses:
The frames are ones I bought many years ago and they are almost the same as my other glasses but have a blue rim on the inside. That you can’t see in this picture. Anyway, I am now the proud owner of three pairs of progressives, one pair that works for most things but not all that well, one pair for reading, computer stuff and reading sheet music and the new pair for seeing things in the distance like when I want to drive or ride my bike or actually read road signs and such.
And if my sight changes a lot in the next six months I can get new lenses without paying anything (which I might need because of the cataracts) and after that until the end of 2025 I would only have to pay for one lens, not two.
I went back home by way of the supermarket where I get yogurt and the health food store for beans (and chocolate).
And then I finally tackled the washing machine. This is the detergent tray before:
And this is after:
I say that’s good enough. After that I put the washing machine cleaning powder in the machine and let it wash on hot and now we’re very hopeful the machine (and the laundry) won’t smell again.
While I was doing all that my husband had been cooking and lunch was half an hour early. All three of us sat down to eat together and it was all very harmonious:
I took a break and this time I only ate half the chocolate and left the rest for the boy as intended.
I have been wondering where to find the time and energy to work on my publishing tasks. Since one of my students canceled and I would be finished early I told a writer friend that I would go into the online office at 7 pm. She ended up not joining me because that was during her lunch break but since I had said I’d go (and put it in my calendar with an alarm), I did.
But before that I went to the kitchen to get something for dinner. And found my husband washing dishes. He said since I had been teaching much longer he’d help me. That was extremely nice and helpful. We talked a bit while I ate, then I read a few paragraphs (second Miss Phryne Fisher novel) and then I was off to the online office. I worked in my studio because I have the big monitor there and for Zoom meetings I like to spread things out.
I finally sent the feedback to my cover designer and then started looking into WordPress themes. Well. As always that makes my head hurt. But I need to change the theme of this blog and of my author site, it is becoming more and more buggy. Not today, though.
After that I started writing this post, did Duolingo, knitted another part of the endless gauge swatch with yet another smaller needle (I need a gauge of 24 stitches per 10 cm (4 inches) and with the 2 mm needles I only get 22. If the 1.75 mm needle still doesn’t work I’ll give up, I think. And then I went to bed.
Oh, and I started the first square of the Flowerpress blanket. It feels very fiddly at the moment but that’s always the case at the start. I’ll get used to it, for sure.
So all in all a pretty productive day, I’d say. Today will be a little less busy, I hope.
