Guess who went to bed past midnight again? Right. Yesterday the boy asked me when I last had enough sleep and I drew up a blank. I don’t know. Oops.
Of course I’ll start going to bed on time right away. Sure.
I woke up, went online and skipped the morning routine in favor of an earlier breakfast again. Talked with my husband a bit, woke the boy up and then got ready for the day. I took a shower and packed my small backpack, I even packed my knitting but didn’t take it out at all.
The boy and I took the train to Munich and then – because of construction at the other end – we had to change to the subway and back to the train. It was only 11 at that point but when looking at possible places for lunch we quickly decided to get off at Munich main station and eat around there. I vetoed McDonalds and instead we had burgers at „Hans im Glück“:
We were there the minute they opened and the food was delicious as always. I tried being virtuous and ordered an alcohol-free beer but they were out and so I got one with alcohol.
We were just around the corner from the subway station and our trip to Oberschleißheim went smooth. Took a bit longer than usual, of course.
Then we walked form the train station to the museum via the Schleißheim Palace. Very impressive.
In contrast the airplane museum looked rather small but we found that the entrance is in the smallest of the buildings. I had bought our tickets online in the morning but we never had to show them to anyone.
The exhibition was a bit jumbled, apparently they are moving planes around so they can do some reconstruction work on older planes and that meant most of the more recent planes were shoved together in one corner. Which made the boy a little sad because he would have liked to get a better look of the MiG, the Tornado and the Eurofighter. There were also quite a few interesting prototypes.
Still, we got to see a restored Lilienthal glider and some really interesting planes. Right in the middle we could even see four planes in flight, they had two Junkers planes, one more modern one and a biplane. We got to see them started, moving to the airstrip and briefly in flight.
After walking and standing for hours my legs became heavy and – my knees started hurting. I mean, my feet were not completely pain-free but who would have thought I could spend the whole day on them without excruciating pain? Phew.
After 2 1/2 hours or so of looking at planes we made our way back. We decided to not sit down in the museum café because we thought the one near the palace would be nicer.
Well, it was right next to a busy street and one could only see a small corner of the palace but we went there anyway. On the way we had walked most of the way around the palace and had met various wedding parties.
Then we trudged home from tree shade to tree shade, waited for the train and went the whole way back.
At home I actually stepped in the shower for a second time that day, had a piece of leftover pizza for dinner, did Duolingo, finished reading „Grave Importance“, watched C-drama with another beer and went to bed.
And now I will enjoy the very last day of summer break.
